Alain Fischer is an internationally-recognized expert in genetics of immunological disorders, primary immunodeficiency diseases, and the development of the lymphoid system. He was the first to obtain in 2000 clinical success with gene therapy for the treatment of children affected by SCID disease (“bubble babies”) for which he obtained the Japan Prize in 2015. INSERM “Grand Prix” (2008), Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine (2001), he is also author of more than 600 journal publications. Until 2016 he was head of the Imagine Institute where he still contributes actively in fundamental and clinical research.
